I love creating beautiful, healthy smiles! There is nothing like seeing a person who is afraid to smile transform into a person who can’t stop smiling when the braces come off. It is truly wonderful to see my patients’ increased confidence and self-esteem when they have a smile they can be proud of.
Dr. Grant Walton
DMD, MS
Dr. Walton has been creating healthy, smiling faces in the Pinal County area since 1990. He absolutely loves what he does and the amazing team he works with. Born and raised in the awesome city of Casa Grande, it is a great honor to give back to a community that he cares so much about.
As a product of the CG Elementary and CG Union High School systems, he accepted a full-ride academic scholarship to the University of Arizona where he graduated with honors. He affirms that at this time in his life, one of his biggest blessings was serving a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in southern Spain. More than anything, this experience taught him that serving other people should be a top priority in all aspects of his life.
So instead of pursuing Veterinary school he decided to be a dentist. At that time there were no Arizona dental schools. Dr. Walton was accepted into an interstate exchange program where he attended Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. Along with his new bride/”better half” Laura, Dr. Walton left for Portland a week after their marriage and they both worked and went to school full time. Their ‘dream castle” was a kleenex-green trailer in a bargain trailer park for the next four years. They look back with appreciation and laughter on all the adventures and sacrifices they made in order to pursue their dreams of higher education. Dr. Walton’s senior year, Laura, with her new elementary education, got another degree in mothering as they welcomed their first child, Malorie Rose, to the family. Despite their struggles, it was livin’ the dream.
Once again graduating top of his class, he continued his education at the prestigious orthodontic program at the University of Illinois at Chicago – which, by the way, is a LONG way from Casa Grande! His classmates were convinced he was a true “hick from the sticks”, and dubbed his old beater truck “Walton’s possum-catcher”. Their second daughter, Caitlin, was born the day after Christmas 1989. The following year, Dr. Walton received both his certificate in orthodontics and master of science.
So excited to head back to Arizona and the big city of Casa Grande, Dr. Walton hung out his shingle and began his private practice enthusiastically with a single patient. His wife Laura was his employee of the week, (every week!) as receptionist, scheduling coordinator, chair side assistant, janitor and overall biggest fan. Since those memorable early days, Walton Orthodontics has become the thriving practice it is today, still maintaining the attitude of service towards the community.
Dr. Walton has continued to serve his church, his community and his profession in various capacities including:
- Bishop and Stake President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
- youth leader
- prison ministry
- youth athletics coach and sponsor
- community service committees
- President of the Arizona Orthodontic Association
- Arizona Orthodontic Study Group board member
- NYU Langone Pediatric Dental Residency Mentor
Grant and Laura have raised five wonderful children in this community they love, and now are thriving in their new role as grandparents. Some of Dr. Walton’s favorite family activities include tennis, pickle-ball, football, baseball, snow-boarding, wake-boarding, hiking, mountain biking, running, piloting small aircraft, and many other outdoor activities.
